About Me

I started my broadcast career at a low-power AM station at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. I continued to work in radio and television as a student at Southern Utah University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree. I took my first full-time job in television as a reporter/anchor at KPVI-TV in Pocatello, Idaho. After several years there, I left to work on a master’s degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

At BYU, I worked as an assignment editor for the university’s student-run integrated television, radio, newspaper, and internet newsroom. I also worked as a producer and video editor at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and as a producer and director at KBYU Television.

I accepted a teaching position at Ricks College in 1999 and enjoyed helping create a new four-year communication degree as Ricks became Brigham Young University-Idaho. I earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Idaho in 2010.

I teach social and digital media, video journalism, and mass media courses at BYU-Idaho. I’m the host and executive producer of Latter-day Profiles. Latter-day Profiles is a television show featuring noteworthy members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The program is produced by students, faculty, and staff. It airs on BYUTv and is available online.

I’m an award-winning documentarian and produce video journalism stories for local news outlets. I started Shoebox Story to help people record, save, and share family stories and events.
